Role of NTNU in COLUMBUS
Providing support to Competence Node for Maritime Transport & Logistics and Marine Physical Resources. Participating across project in Work Packages 2 to 6.
Profile of staff engaged in the project:
Prof. Bernt J. Leira is professor in Marine Technology, holding a PhD degree in Marine Structures. He has co-authored more than 200 conference and journal papers, and his research interests include marine environment and load modelling, structural reliability analysis, stochastic dynamic response and Finite Element Methods. Areas of application comprise e.g. marine aquaculture, renewable marine energy, floating production systems, risers and mooring lines as well as bottom-fixed platforms.
Prof Stein Ove Erikstad is a Professor and head of the Marine Systems research group at the NTNU Dept of Marine Technology. He has worked at Computas Expert Systems, The Norwegian Marine Technology Research Institute (MARINTEK), and Det Norske Veritas (DNV). He is also the co-founder of the marine industry consulting company proNavis (now DNV proNavis). He was a visiting research scholar at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ESD´s Systems Engineering Advancement research initiative (SEAri), from August 2012 to July 2013. Prof. Erikstad´s research interests are in the areas of complex marine systems design, applied to ship transport, offshore oil and gas, aquaculture and offshore energy. This includes ship and logistics systems optimization, arctic transport, modular platforms and risk-based design.
