The National Institute of Aquatic Resources (DTU-AQUA) provides research, counselling and education concerning the sustainable exploitation of living marine and freshwater resources including aquaculture, the biology of aquatic organisms and the development of ecosystems as well as their integration in ecosystem-based management. This involves the biology of fish and shellfish populations, dynamics and interaction with other organisms in aquatic systems as well as relevant environmental and climatic impacts. Planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of management initiatives in relation to aquaculture and fisheries are central elements as well as the development of technology for optimizing the utilization of resources and minimizing environmental impacts. The Institute conducts the Danish national monitoring on fish and fisheries for the EU. DTU Aqua has extensive experience in coordinating and managing scientific programmes, including the coordination of several EU framework programmes.

He has considerable experience in modelling of the aquatic systems, including biological and physical processes and he is author of 20 peer-reviewed publications. He has been involved in several EU FP7 projects including EUROBASIN, EUROMARINE, and COCONET, was former member of the executive of the EUROCEANS Consortium and member of the EUROMARINE Steering Committee.
