CONSORTIUM

The COLUMBUS Consortium is made up of 26 Partners across 14 countries and has been specifically designed to address the call topic and achieve the intended impacts. The Consortium is a balanced, multidisciplinary partnership, containing Pan-European organisations which represent a broad constituency of stakeholders in the marine and maritime areas.

COLUMBUS brings together a new extended multi-stakeholder, multidisciplinary, transnational partnership with the experience, strategic positioning and track record in the marine and maritime sectors to achieve the ambitious impacts of the call topic. Understanding that strategic changes are needed in how the marine and maritime community interact and collaborate for mutual benefit, the partnership has been constructed to represent all aspects of the research lifecycle (funding bodies, researchers, communications experts and end-users) and all regional sea basins in Europe.

EuroGOOS (European Global Ocean Observing System) is an international non-profit association of 40 national governmental agencies and research organisations from 19 EU countries, operating in the context of UNESCO IOC’s Global Ocean Observing System. Founded in 1994, EuroGOOS has played a leading role in improving the quality and cost effectiveness of the ocean observing services in Europe. Through its Regional Operational Oceanographic Systems (ROOSes), strategic working groups and operational instruments, EuroGOOS develops strategies, priorities and standards towards a concerted integrated European Ocean Observing System to the benefit of sustainable blue growth.

Role of EUROGOOS in COLUMBUS

Providing support to Competence Node for Monitoring and Observation. Participating across the project in Work Packages 2 to 7.

Profile of staff engaged in the project:

PatrickPatrick Gorringe is Senior Operations Officer at EuroGOOS. He is responsible for, among others, the coordination of the five EuroGOOS Regional Operational Oceanographic Systems (ROOSes) and involved in a number of projects related to marine data management and dissemination. Patrick has a unique competence in operational oceanography and its applications and its users as well as ocean policy issues in Europe and globally. He has also been working in Australia coordinating real-time data for the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) and drawing together diverse Australian marine datasets from a wide range of different data originators into the Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN).

 

DinaDina Eparkhina is EuroGOOS Coordination and Communication Officer. Dina has a multidisciplinary background in cultural project management, teaching and linguistics. Since 2007, Dina has been working at the interface between marine science and policy, involved in the activities of the European Marine Board, EurOCEAN conference series and several FP projects, including, among others, EU FP7 CLAMER. At EuroGOOS, Dina is leading the development and coordination of communication and stakeholder engagement strategies.
